The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts exams for various banking posts in India, including Probationary Officer (PO), Clerk, Specialist Officer (SO), and Regional Rural Bank (RRB) exams.

1. IBPS PO Syllabus

For IBPS PO, you have to clear two rounds as preliminary and main exams.

Prelims Exam

  • English Language: This section tests your proficiency in English, including grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. It includes the topics as follows, reading comprehension, cloze test, fill in the blanks, multiple meaning/error spotting, paragraph completion, para jumbles, miscellaneous.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: This section assesses your mathematical and problem-solving abilities. It includes the topics as follows, simplification, profit & loss, mixtures & alligations, simple & compound interest, time & work, time & distance, ratio & proportion, percentage, number series, data Interpretation, mensuration, permutation, combination & probability.
  • Reasoning Ability: It includes the topics as follows, puzzle and seating arrangement,inequalities, syllogism, blood relations, direction sense, order and ranking, alphanumeric series, Input output, Coding-decoding, Logical reasoning.

Main Exam 

  • Reasoning & Computer Aptitude: This section includes the topics as follows, puzzles, seating arrangement, Input-output, syllogism, coding-decoding, data sufficiency, blood relations, Inequalities, logical reasoning, computer aptitude basics (MS Office, networking, Internet, etc.)
  • General/Economy/Banking Awareness: This section includes the topics as follows, current affairs (related to Banking and Economy), financial Awareness, Banking Terms, Banking Abbreviations, Government Schemes & Policies, Important Financial and Economic News, RBI Functions and Roles.
  • English Language: This section includes the topics as follows, Reading comprehension, Error detection, Sentence correction, Cloze test, Fill in the blanks, Para jumbles.
  • Data Analysis & Interpretation: In this section you have covered the syllabus as follows, Tabular data Interpretation, Pie charts, Line graphs, Bar graphs, caselets, Probability, data sufficiency, permutation and combination.
  • Descriptive Paper (English Language): Letter writing, Essay writing

2. IBPS Clerk Syllabus

The IBPS Clerk exam is conducted in two phases, Preliminary and Main exams.

Preliminary Exam

  • English Language: In this section you have covered the syllabus as follows, Reading comprehension, cloze test, fill in the blanks, spotting errors, para jumbles.
  • Numerical Ability: This section includes as follows, simplification, number series, ratio & proportion, percentage, profit & loss, mixtures & allegations, simple & compound interest, time & work, time & distance, data interpretation.
  • Reasoning Ability: This section includes as follows, puzzles, seating arrangement, blood relations, syllogism, alphanumeric series, inequality, coding-decoding, order and ranking.

Main Exam

  • Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude: Same as PO mains, with a focus on simpler questions in comparison.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Same as PO, but with simpler data interpretation and arithmetic questions.
  • English Language: Same as PO, but with a simpler difficulty level.
  • General/Financial Awareness: Same as PO, focusing more on general banking awareness.

3. IBPS SO Syllabus

The Specialist Officer exam has different sections depending on the specialisation, such as IT Officer, Marketing Officer, etc. Below is a general structure.

Preliminary Exam

  • English Language: Similar to PO and Clerk exams.
  • Reasoning: Similar to PO and Clerk exams, but more complex.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: General Awareness includes questions on current affairs, Banking awareness, and Economy-related topics. This section is only for (IT/HR/Marketing/Agriculture Officer) or General awareness with special reference to Banking Industry (Law Officer)

Main Exam

  • Professional Knowledge: Questions specific to the professional knowledge of the respective specialisation, such as IT knowledge for IT Officers, HR practices for HR Officers, marketing principles for Marketing Officers, and legal knowledge for Law Officers.

4. IBPS RRB Syllabus

The IBPS RRB (Regional Rural Bank) exam is conducted for various posts such as Officer Scale I (Assistant Manager), Officer Scale II (General Banking Officer and Specialist Officer), Officer Scale III, and Office Assistant (Multipurpose). 

The exam is divided into two phases for Office Assistant and Officer Scale I: Preliminary and Main Exams. For Officer Scale II and III, there’s a single exam followed by an interview.

  • Reasoning: Similar to PO and clerk exams, but more complex.
  • Numerical Ability: Basic arithmetic and data interpretation.
  • Quantitative Aptitude : Similar to PO and clerk exams, but more complex.
  • General Awareness: Banking-related questions, along with regional rural banking knowledge and Current affairs.
  • Hindi/English Language: Depending on the language chosen, it will have comprehension and grammar questions.
  • Computer Knowledge: Basic computer awareness, cyber security basics, databases.
  • Financial Awareness : Repo rate and reverse repo rate, financial instruments, common banking services, anti money laundering regulations, current affairs.
